Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Welbeck display v Southampton

By Harvey Byrne

Danny Welbeck made his first start for Arsenal since May against Southampton on Saturday, and Gunners fans on Twitter were delighted with what they saw.

The 26-year-old made his first appearance for the Gunners as a substitute in the last round and has since played just 11 minutes in another position from the bench against Swansea.

Manager Arsene Wenger decided to place him in the starting line-up against the Saints and his decision was fully justified as Welbeck finished the 5-0 victory with two goals to his name.

The former Manchester United man opened the scoring after just 15 minutes with an excellent chip over the onrushing Harry Lewis, while he managed to slot it through the young goalkeeper’s legs for the second.

He completed 64 minutes for the north London side before being brought off for Alexis Sanchez and Arsenal fans were ecstatic with Welbeck on social media.

Welbeck made the switch to Arsenal from Manchester United in the summer of 2014 in a £16million deal.

He has played in 54 matches in total for the club, bringing a return of 13 goals and eight assists.

Fans will now be hoping for the striker to hit some form as they aim to put some pressure on top of the league Chelsea.
