Arsenal fans in frenzy on Twitter after 28-year-old axed
By Matt Farr
Theo Walcott was one of several Arsenal players overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate in his latest international squad – and fans on Twitter are dumbfounded.
The 28-year-old was omitted from Southgate’s 26-man squad for the upcoming matches against Germany and Lithuania, despite an impressive run of form for his club.
England’s confirmed squad was announced via the national team’s official Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

Walcott was overlooked by Southgate alongside Arsenal trio Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Kieran Gibbs; but the decision to axe Walcott in particular was met with derision by fans on Twitter.
There was a place in the squad, however, for midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Given England are light on attackers, not really sure why Theo Walcott hasn't been picked. One of the few bright spots for AFC recently.

Livermore and Lingard in the England squad but not 17-goal Walcott – that's got to be a joke, right?

Walcott is too good for England. Southgate hasn't got a clue.

You thought Brexit was the worst thing to happen to England? Southgate just picked Lingard over Walcott.

Walcott has scored 17 goals from 29 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season, which is more than any other member of Southgate’s current England squad.
He also has goals in each of his last two appearances, first in the 5-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, and then in the 5-0 win over Lincoln in the FA Cup.
The forward has appeared 47 times for the England senior side since making his international debut in May 2006, scoring eight goals.
But his last international strike stretches as far back as October 2015, when England scraped past Estonia in their Euro 2016 qualifier at Wembley.
Walcott was later overlooked in then-manager Roy Hodgson’s final squad for the tournament, as England crashed out to Iceland in the last-16.
