Arsenal fans slam 25-year-old on Twitter after display v Chelsea

Francis Coquelin played 65 minutes in Arsenal’s defeat to Chelsea on Saturday- and the club’s supporters were highly critical of his performance on Twitter.

The 25-year-old couldn’t prevent his side losing 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and that result means they are now 12 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Marcos Alonso put the hosts in front with a headed goal and Eden Hazard score a sensational second after finishing off his scintillating dribble, which included outmuscling Coquelin to the floor.

Cesc Fabregas made sure of the points for the Blues and substitute Olivier Giroud netted a late consolation.

Arsenal fans picked out the display of midfielder Coquelin and feel he endured a terrible match.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Coquelin was named in the starting XI by Arsene Wenger and played alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the midfield.

The pair found it extremely difficult to contend with the opposition as N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic bossed the midfield battle.

Coquelin has been in and out of the starting line-up this campaign and has completed 90 minutes in just seven of his 25 appearances.

The Frenchman has been unable to cement his position in the side and could be in risk of missing out for the club’s next match against Hull in the Premier League.
