Arsenal fans stunned as ‘shocking’ new penalty footage v Liverpool re-analysed
Arsenal fans are adamant their side should have been awarded a penalty in the first half of their Premier League clash v Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta’s side fought to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates after goals from Bukayo Saka, Virgil van Dijk, Mikel Merino and Mohamed Salah ensured the title hopefuls shared the points.
However, before Merino sent his side into half-time with a 2-1 lead, there were loud shouts from the home crowd for a penalty after a heavy challenge in the area.
As Gabriel Marinelli and Ibrahima Konate battled for the ball in the box, the Frenchman appeared to slide the winger’s legs out from under him, but no decision was given.
Referee Anthony Taylor waved away the penalty claims, while VAR official Michael Salisbury agreed after what seemed to be a short check.
Footage of replays emerging on social media left the home supporters stunned that no penalty was awarded as they exploded with rage.
It was a result that saw the hosts fail to close the gap on their title rivals, but fans will feel the result could have been different had the decision gone their way.

Taylor has often been on the end of stick from both fanbases after controversial decisions against them, and it is now Arsenal’s turn to slam the referee.
Despite replays appearing to show the defender had made no contact with the ball and simply bundled Martinelli to the ground, the officials made a swift call of no penalty.
Taking to social media as footage of the incident began doing the rounds, Arsenal supporters were left fuming as they labelled the referee “shocking” and “an embarrassment”.
