‘Arsenal gearing up for summer splurge’ – ‘I’ve been through the documents’
Arsenal posted their financial results for the 2023-24 campaign last week – a season in which they were beaten to the Premier League title by Man City for the second time running.
The Gunners now look set to be pipped to the post by Liverpool in the current campaign – with Arne Slot’s side pulling a huge gap at the summit.
Arsenal suffered a £17.7million loss last season despite posting record-breaking revenue of £616.6million – a 32.1% increase on the previous season.
The loss comes after a £200million outlay on the signings of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber in the summer of 2023.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has analysed the Arsenal accounts and had his say.

Arsenal can strengthen again this summer, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has insisted Arsenal will be able to spend big again in the upcoming off-season.
That is despite Premier League clubs only being able to lose £105million across three years under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Season | Revenue |
2023-24 | £594million |
2022-23 | £441.5million |
2021-22 | £358.7million |
2020-21 | £304million |
2019-20 | £321.4million |
Wyness insisted the Gunners’ loss for last season is “very small in the overall picture”.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve been through the accounts.
“What I would say is that the loss is very small in the overall picture.
“People have been talking a lot about Arsenal recently and getting on Arteta’s back, but it was only back in 2021 that they finished eighth.
“Everyone’s now upset that they’re not winning the league.
“But there’s been great increases in revenue, everything is ok, they’ve spent a lot on players – but they will be able to spend again and strengthen the squad.
“Nothing sticks out at all as being out of whack in any way, and I’ve been through the numbers in detail.”

Arsenal face devastating Saka blow
Meanwhile, Football Insider has been told Arsenal would be “lucky” if injured superstar Bukayo Saka plays again in the 2024-25 campaign.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have already been ruled out for the season, while Gabriel Martinelli has also been on the treatment table in recent weeks.
Saka had managed nine goals and 13 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions before his injury.
