Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly sets shock Premier League record vs Man City

Arsenal gem Myles Lewis-Skelly set a new Premier League record when he was booked 27 minutes before making his Premier League debut against Man City.

The Gunners fought hard to secure a 2-2 draw away from home, but will feel gutted after John Stones’ 98th-minute winner snatched a point for the hosts at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland’s opener was quickly overturned by first-half goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes, before a tense second half saw Arsenal defend bravely, although they could not prevent the winner from Stones.

However, all eyes were on Lewis-Skelly when he was booked by referee Michael Oliver while warming up by the side of the pitch in the 65th minute, although the reason for his yellow card was unclear.

The referee’s call saw the 17-year-old become the first player ever to be booked before his Premier League debut.

He eventually made his way onto the pitch for his debut in the 92nd minute, replacing Jurrien Timber after the defender suffered with cramp.

The bizarre twist stood out despite plenty of drama on the pitch as the England Under-19s star engaged in a clash with the referee while his side attempted to hold their lead.

Arsenal hold Man City to thrilling 2-2 draw at the Etihad

Lewis-Skelly received one of 11 yellow cards, including one given to Pep Guardiola, in a game which was not without its controversies as Leandro Trossard was sent off.

The Arsenal man was handed a second yellow card for delaying the restart – much to the frustration of the travelling supporters.

As a result, Arteta’s men were forced to defend staunchly throughout the second half as they parked the bus to earn a point away from home against their title rivals.

Eventually, though, City’s pressure paid off after a scramble in the box was bundled home by Stones, crashing through a crowd of players on its way in.
