Arsenal ‘have done great Martin Zubimendi deal’ – Stefan Borson
Arsenal have agreed a summer deal for Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi after he made it clear he didn’t want to join Manchester City this month.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the north London club appear to have secured a “great deal” for the Spain international.
Zubimendi turned down a move to Liverpool last summer, while Man City had shown an interest in him recently following Rodri’s season-ending injury.
The midfielder is also believed to have been a long-term target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The Daily Mail reported on 14 January the London giants will trigger the 25-year-old’s £51million release clause to land him on a deal for the end of this season.
Arsenal deal for Martin Zubimendi works for all parties
Borson suggested the deal is set to be agreed for the summer because that arrangement works for all the parties involved.
“I suspect the player doesn’t want to move mid-season,” Borson told Football Insider.
“Arsenal probably have no great need for him for the second half of this season.
“I think the actual transaction itself appears to be a no-brainer at that fee for a player of his quality. He’s been pursued by Liverpool last summer and probably by Man City this winter.
“But it sounds like he gave City a clear answer he didn’t want to go, so they moved on pretty quickly. We don’t know for sure, but that would be my guess.

“But Arsenal have clearly done a deal, he wants to go in the summer. It’s a great deal for Arsenal at that price. It’s low risk given the quality.
“I don’t think it’s a PSR situation why they are signing him in the summer, I think it’s simply a case of that works for all parties for him to move in the summer.”
