Arsenal have found their next star as Cristhian Mosquera’s full stats emerge from win vs Tottenham

Cristhian Mosquera came off the bench to deliver a brilliant performance in the North London derby on Sunday.

Arsenal smashed Tottenham 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with both Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres scoring a brace.

Igor Tudor had hoped to get off to a positive start to his interim tenure in charge of the North London club, but his team were bested throughout the occasion.

Randal Kolo Muani did equalise in the first half, but Tottenham could not build on the momentum and were thumped after the break.

The home side did have some cause to feel hard done by, however, when what would have been the striker’s second goal was ruled out for a weak push on Gabriel.

Cristhian Mosquera dominates vs Tottenham

Mosquera cost just £13million when he arrived from Valencia in the summer, and he has already impressed massively this season.

The 21-year-old has stepped in on several occasions in the centre of the defence, performing superbly every time.

But on Sunday, Mikel Arteta asked the Spain youth international to perform a slightly different role.

Jurrien Timber had picked up a yellow card in the first half and looked to be tiring, but Arsenal were without Ben White.

Instead, Arteta turned to Mosquera, bringing him on for the final 33 minutes. What he got in return was a staggeringly good cameo.

Tottenham were having some success down the Arsenal right, but that stopped completely when the 21-year-old appeared.

In just 33 minutes, he created a chance, completed two clearances, made five tackles, and won every single one of the five duels he was faced with.

Mikel Arteta must utilise Mosquera

Mosquera sat on the bench on Wednesday as a tired Timber was part of a leggy-looking Arsenal defence that gave up a two-goal lead to Wolves.

The Dutchman is such an important player for the Gunners, but there is only so many minutes he can play before fatigue sets in.

That should not be a problem, however, while Arsenal have the likes of White and now Mosquera available to come on.

And the latter is not just an option for when a game needs to be seen out – he won the ball high up the pitch just seconds after coming on against Tottenham, creating a big chance for Bukayo Saka.

What is clear is that it is becoming increasingly apparent that Arsenal have signed something very special in Mosquera.
