Arsenal have 'perfect' chance to sell Aubameyang after development 'I've never seen' - pundit

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was never part of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal project.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as the striker continues to be ostracised by his manager.

Aubameyang, 32, missed Arsenal’s Boxing Day win over Norwich, the fifth game in a row he has missed after being stripped of the club captaincy.

The striker was stripped of the Gunners captaincy last week (14 December) following a “disciplinary breach”.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano (26 December), Arteta is taking his decisions on Aubameyang’s availability “game by game.”

McAvennie claims Arteta has found the perfect excuse to get rid of a player he never wanted.

“You can’t keep a player who is disruptive,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Everything is looking good for Arsenal at the moment. They are playing well and getting results.

“The squad is so young and I think they will only get better. That’s the problem with Aubameyang.

“He’s Arsenal’s past and he hasn’t proved that he can cut it with the young lads.

“There is always a changing of the guard at some point, I think this is it.

“I’ve never seen a player punished for this long over whatever he did.

“I don’t think he was in Arteta’s plans and now Aubameyang has given Arteta the perfect opportunity to get rid of him.

“I expect that’s the end of that.”

Aubameyang signed a bumper new deal at Arsenal last year which runs until 2023.

The Gabon international has scored four Premier League goals this term.
