Arsenal idol ‘absolutely delighted’ by what he’s heard from Gabriel Jesus
Kevin Campbell is “delighted” after Arsenal announced Gabriel Jesus as their new number nine.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Highbury favourite said the 25-year-old’s “phenomenal” finishing will give Mikel Arteta’s side “another dimension.”
On Monday (4 July), the Gunners announced the arrival of Jesus from Man City on a long-term contract.
According to Sky Sports, the London club will pay £45million for the Brazil international.
Speaking to club media (4 July), Jesus said: “I am a number nine” when quizzed about his favoured position.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the new signing’s, Campbell said: “He has been brought in to be Arsenal’s new number nine.
“Look, he does play other positions very well but that is because he has to. That was the only chance he was going to get at Man City at times.
“Jesus is very capable and he is a fox in the box. His goalscoring in the box is phenomenal. The majority of his goals are in the box. Arsenal lack that, big time.
“It is Jesus’ time now. He is 25, a Brazil international with four league titles. We need him to be the man.
“He has the number nine shirt and I am delighted. I am absolutely delighted we have signed him. He gives this Arsenal side another dimension.”

Speaking on his position, Jesus said: “I’m a number nine! I’m a striker, you know.
‘I’m so glad and I thank God every day that I can be alive, and that I can play in three or four different positions, but I think my position is nine.”
