Arsenal idol applauds Edu after ‘serious upgrade’ announced
Kevin Campbell has suggested “frustration” within the Arsenal fan base will be allayed by the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Highbury favourite said the 25-year-old is “a serious upgrade” on the current options at the Emirates.
On Monday (4 July), Arsenal announced the arrival of Jesus from Man City on a long-term contract.
According to Sky Sports, the London club will pay £45million for the Brazil international, who had entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad.
Technical director Edu expressed his “delight” to club media after the signing was completed.
When asked by Football Insider if Edu deserved praise for getting a deal over the line, Campbell said: “Yes.
“Listen, there has been a lot of frustration around the Arsenal fan base. It is because the club haven’t performed at their best in recent years.
“People look at the recruitment guys, the likes of Edu and the manager. There has been a lot of flack flying about.

“If you ask the Arsenal fans now, they feel a lot better. What happened last summer, the business that got done, coupled with players like Jesus coming in, it is great.
“Jesus is a serious upgrade. He is coming from Man City, with four Premier League titles under his belt and we need him to be our main man at the top end of the pitch.”
