Arsenal idol backs Kyle Walker-Peters deal after £30m reveal

Kevin Campbell has suggested Kyle Walker-Peters would be a “very good” addition at Arsenal amid links to the former Tottenham defender.

The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old could play on the right or left flank under Mikel Arteta after watching him in action for Southampton.

According to The Athletic (10 July), the Saints have made “no progress” as they prepare a new contract for Walker-Peters – who is wanted by Man United and Arsenal.

His current deal expires in June 2025 – and Tottenham reportedly hold the option to re-sign the England international for £30million.

Campbell insisted that potential price tag is “cheap money” for someone of Walker-Peters’ quality.

“I’ve watched him play and he’s done really well at Southampton,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He got a few opportunities at Spurs but we didn’t really see the best of him. But now he’s playing week-in, week-out – he looks like a really good addition to that Southampton squad.

“He can play left or right, he’s a good attacker and a good passer – he’s a real threat going forward.

“£30m is cheap money for an England international. He’d have to put his Spurs ties aside to come and join Arsenal – but he’s a very good player.”

Hector Bellerin has returned to Arsenal’s pre-season set-up despite being vocal in his desire to remain at Real Betis after his season-long loan came to an end.

Walker-Peters played 23 times at left-back for Southampton during the 2021-22 season after the emergence of youngster Tino Livramento.

He registered two goals and four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions last term.
