Arsenal idol ‘worried’ by confirmed news as Uefa rules explained

Kevin Campbell is “worried” Arsenal may not be able to reschedule their Europa League fixture against PSV Eindhoven.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker claimed “it is going to be real tight” given that the World Cup kicks off in November.

On Monday (12 September), the London club confirmed that their Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates on Thursday has been postponed.

The game will be rescheduled due to police resources in the capital prior to the Queen’s funeral.

As stipulated by UEFA, the Gunners may have to forfeit the fixture if they cannot reschedule it but they will not be chucked out of the competition.

When asked by Football Insider if there is a concern over whether Mikel Arteta’s side will be able to reschedule the PSV Eindhoven game, Campbell said: “We had the weekend’s fixtures postponed because of the sad news.

“I expected the midweek European games to go through though.

“Of all of the games that are not happening, Arsenal at home on a Thursday? It is very difficult to take. How could a game on the Thursday be off but a midday kick-off on the Saturday be on? It makes no sense to me.

“Something it going on in the background that I don’t know about.

“There is a concern that Arsenal will not be able to reschedule this game. You would have to say that there is a worry there.

“I think the club asked to play behind closed doors because they know how bad the fixture pile-up is given that we have a World Cup have way through the season. It is going to be real tight.

“It is really sad when a monarch dies. Arsenal need to fulfil these fixtures though.”
