Arsenal ‘in pole position’ to sign Youri Tielemans ahead of Newcastle United – Campbell

Kevin Campbell is adamant Arsenal will get a deal done for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said Mikel Arteta’s side are “in pole position” to sign the 25-year-old ahead of Newcastle United.

Tielemans has just one year remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

According to The Sun‘s Mark Irwin (6 July), Arsenal have stepped up their interest in the Belgium international and are now confident of completing a £30million deal.

CBS Sports Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed (1 July) there is a growing sense that Newcastle could enter the race for the midfielder’s signature.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “Look, Arsenal have been playing it quite cute.

“They are at the behest of Leicester. Tielemans wants to come to Arsenal.

“Of course you have teams like Newcastle sniffing around because they are now in the business are improving that squad. They want to move and move quick. Getting quality players in is the name of the game.

“I think Arsenal will get the job done, if Leicester allow them. If Leicester drag it out though, who knows. It could get a bit messy if it goes to the end of the window.

“Arsenal are in pole position to get him. It is just a matter of the funding. You have to remember that he only has a year left on his contract.”
