Alex Iwobi has worried fans after posting a video of his right ankle in a bandage on Snapchat following Arsenal’s 2-0 FA Cup win against Sutton.
Iwobi, 20, started the game against their non-league side opponents before being replaced by Alexis Sanchez in the 74th minute, as the Gunners secured a place in the quarter finals.
Posting on his official Snapchat story, the attacker revealed that his ankle had been strapped up following the comfortable win at Gander Green Lane.
Below is a screenshot of the Nigeria international’s ankle.
The Gunners now have an extended period without a match after their weekend clash against Southampton was postponed because the Saints are playing Man United in the EFL Cup final.
That gives Arsenal’s number 17 a longer time in which to recover before the north London side’s next outing against Liverpool on March 4.
Academy graduate Iwobi has become an integral part of manager Arsene Wenger’s side this season, having a hand in 11 goals during his 33 league and cup appearances.
Scoring four times against FC Basel, Watford, Crystal Palace and Stoke, the eight-time international has provided seven assists from out wide or in the number 10 role.
If fit, Iwobi will be expected to feature against Liverpool early next month as the Gunners look to mount a late Premier League title surge.
Arsenal will now meet another non-league opponent in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in Lincoln City, after goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott sent them through to the last eight.
Football Insider verdict:
Arsenal’s attacking stars are struggling to find any kind of form in the final third at the moment, with Iwobi a rare example of a player that has shown signs of improvement throughout the season. The youngster has made the left-wing position his own this season, and will be a huge loss if he is unable to return in time for the Liverpool clash. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain showing form in the middle of the park, the Gunners may have to reshuffle their formation to replace Iwobi with Theo Walcott the only other player to have played regularly out wide this term. Alexis Sanchez is expected to continue as a centre forward against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
In other Arsenal news, Everton are reportedly interested in this Gunners goalscorer.
