‘Arsenal is the whisper I’ve heard from an agent’ – Source reveals summer signing news

Arsenal and Tottenham may both pursue a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka in the summer.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Goretzka being out of contract at the end of the season.

Arsenal have previously shown interest in Goretzka, and Mikel Arteta was looking for a new midfielder at the end of the January window.

Spurs signed midfielder Conor Gallagher in January, but Thomas Frank wants to continue strengthening his squad.

Leon Goretzka ‘wants to come to London’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that Spurs are currently “favourite” to sign Goretzka.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has heard Arsenal are “keeping a very close eye” on Goretzka too.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, well, Arsenal were also heavily linked, so it does seem to be that the two rivals in North London are looking at the same player.

Arsenal is the whisper I’d heard from an agent that I spoke to this week that seemed to be keener. So we will see where it goes, but of course, he is a quality player, there’s no doubt he’s going to be a hard midfielder, that is what they’re looking at.

A bit of talent as well, but he’s one that I would expect. He wants to come to London is what I’ve heard. So we’ll see where that ends up. But I think Spurs could well be the favourite, but Arsenal, I’m hearing, are certainly keeping a very close eye on it as well.”

Tottenham face losing two midfielders

Spurs’ Joao Palhinha is expected to return to Bayern Munich once his loan spell in north London comes to an end.

Palhinha’s display against Manchester United left Spurs fans raging, with many believing the 30-year-old does not offer anything to their midfield.

Yves Bissouma’s contract at Spurs expires in the summer, meaning Frank is likely to be in the market to replace the duo.
