‘Arsenal join Man City in pursuit of EFL wonderkid Will Wright as transfer race explodes’

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Viktor Gyokeres, but it looks like their work in the striker position this summer won’t stop there.

The Gunners’ desperate need for a No.9 has been no secret, finishing runner-up in each of the last three Premier League seasons and being outscored by the winners in each campaign.

After a long summer in which they’ve been linked to the likes of Alexander Isak and, more prominently, Benjamin Sesko, Gyokeres finally emerged as the top target.

The Sporting CP man will soon become an Arsenal player following some minor delays, but the North Londoners are still preparing to bring another striker to the club.

Arsenal impressed by Salford wonderkid Will Wright

According to the Mail (15 July), Arsenal have checked on Salford City wonderkid Will Wright.

The 17-year-old has only made four senior appearances for Salford and is yet to score a professional goal. However, he’s caught the eye in pre-season, with his strike against York City on Friday his fourth friendly goal in the space of a week.

Arsenal are now strongly considering joining Manchester City in the race for the teenager, but both clubs have work to do if they’re to beat Liverpool to the punch, with the Reds already tabling an offer in the region of £100,000 with a further £200,000 in add-ons.

Wright particularly caught the eye last week with an excellent solo effort as part of a brace in Salford’s 2-2 friendly draw against FC United of Manchester.

Arsenal to turn attention to Rodrygo in stunning summer sweep

Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga are already through the door for Arsenal ahead of the announcements of Noni Madueke and Gyokeres’ signings.

It’s clear Arsenal aren’t messing around this summer and appear hellbent on overhauling Liverpool and Manchester City to finally end their long title drought.

But even once the Swedish striker comes in, the 13-time English champions don’t appear to be done yet.

According to former Premier League scout Mick Brown, the Gunners could soon turn their attention to Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal are in a situation now where they have to be winning things,” he told Football Insider.

“That’s the step they’re trying to make in the transfer window and the reason they seem to be making progress on a number of different deals.

“They want to upgrade on the players who they think are not quite enough to make them title winners.

“Gabriel Martinelli is one of those, and it’s no secret they’re looking to bring in wingers.

“Madueke seems to be coming in, but I don’t think that will put an end to their deals.

“They’ve been keeping a close eye on Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid, and that’s a deal they feel would work for all parties.

“It became apparent at the Club World Cup that he isn’t in their starting XI plans because he was coming off the bench in most of those games.

“If Arsenal feel they can offer him regular football, then that’s a move he could be tempted to make.
