Arsenal line up late deal for Reiss Nelson replacement – sources

Arsenal will dip into the transfer market for a forward if Reiss Nelson is sold in the final days of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (26 August) that Mikel Arteta still sees the winger as key to his plans and is planning to give him first-team minutes this season but is not planning to stand in his way if the right opportunity arises.

Nelson came off the bench to see out Arsenal’s 2-0 victory against Aston Villa on Saturday (24 August) in the injury absence of Gabriel Jesus.

Leicester City, Crystal Palace and West Ham had been keen on the former England Under-21 international earlier in the summer window but were put off by Arsenal’s price tag.

The top-flight trio or other clubs across England and Europe could revive the race for his signature and send Arsenal looking for a replacement late on in the summer window, which shuts on Friday (30 August).

Arsenal will sign Nelson replacement if he seals late move

Arteta has already conceded that his squad is “a little bit short” in attack following the 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Nelson is under contract until June 2027 but has long been keen to play more regular first-team football.

However, he is behind Bukayo Saka in the pecking order at Arsenal meaning he will have to move away from his boyhood club to become a regular.

Nelson started just once in the Premier League last term and failed to register any goal contributions in his 15 league appearances.
