Mesut Ozil and Sergio Aguero are axed in Football Insider’s combined XI for Arsenal and Manchester City players ahead of their clash in the Premier League on Sunday.
Aguero loses out to Alexis Sanchez in a very close decision but the Arsenal striker gets the nod because he has been involved in 28 goals in his last 27 Premier League fixtures and is in sensational form.
Teammate Ozil misses out as Manchester City’s veteran play-maker David Silva is preferred in another close call.
A number of stars are expected to miss Sunday’s showdown including Aguero and Shkodran Mustafi, but the defender makes the cut in our combined XI.
Mustafi gets the nod ahead of Aleksander Kolarov, Nicolas Otamendi and Gabriel at centre-back and Laurent Koscielny is easily the best option as his partner.
Hector Bellerin has been excellent for Arsenal so is selected at right-back ahead of Pablo Zabaleta but former Gunner Gael Clichy pips Nacho Monreal to the left-back position.
There’s plenty of options available in midfield but both teams play well with two holding midfielders, a number 10 and three attackers.
Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin are axed from their holding midfield roles as Manchester City duo Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan are selected ahead of the Arsenal stars.
Kevin De Bruyne cannot be left out of the team and he starts ahead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the front three but Theo Walcott gets the nod ahead of compatriot Raheem Sterling.
Petr Cech is definitely the better of the two keepers given Claudio Bravo’s nervy start to life in the Premier League.
In other Arsenal news, this is the expected starting XI to take on City on Sunday.
