Arsenal news: Expert ‘100 per cent’ sure on signing of Thomas Partey ally after source’s update

Kevin Campbell is adamant Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz would be a success at Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker is 100 per cent sure the 23-year-old would be a great partner for Thomas Partey.

Mikel Arteta and Edu are in the market for central midfield reinforcements this summer.

An Arsenal source told Football Insider (11 April) that the club are lining up a new move for Luiz after failing to land him in January.

Steven Gerrard would be open to the Brazil international’s departure as he looks to bring Yves Bissouma or Kalvin Phillips to Villa Park.

Luiz has just over a year remaining on his contract with the Midlands club.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Luiz would be a good fit at the Emirates, Campbell said: “100 per cent.

“I think he’d be a great partner for Partney.

“You can see us struggling in midfield right now. [Mohamed] Elneny is not the answer. He will be gone at the end of the season.

“[Granit] Xhaka is our second best because he is experienced in there but I still have a question mark over him.

“Douglas Luiz is hungry, young and is a good ball player. I think he could come in and do a really good job.

“We need numbers as well. It is not just a matter on signing starters. We need a squad. At the moment our squad is not up to scratch. We are weaker than other teams.”
