Arsenal news: Expert issues transfer verdict amid Mikel Arteta sack claim - 'players will be looking'
Mikel Arteta’s new contract will have no bearing on persuading players to join Arsenal this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 40-year-old can still be sacked at any time despite his renewal.
Arsenal confirmed on 6 May that Arteta has pledged his future to the club until June 2025.
The Gunners can confirm their place in next season’s Champions League group stage with a win over top-four rivals Tottenham on Thursday (12 May).
Arsenal are expected to move for a top-class striker this summer, with Man City’s Gabriel Jesus heavily linked with a move to the capital.
When asked if Arteta signing a new deal could be an added draw in the transfer market, Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “Not really, no.

“Players will be looking at it purely from their point of view.
“Contracts don’t really matter for managers; they can sign a new deal just as easily as the board can choose to sack a manager.
“I think the stature of the club and Champions League football will be the biggest draw for anyone coming into Arsenal this summer.”
Arteta led Arsenal to an eighth-place finish last season – his first full campaign in charge at the Emirates Stadium.
He has won 48 of 92 Premier League games at the helm of the north London giants.
