Arsenal news: Pundit can't believe Granit Xhaka development - 'you're joking aren't you?'

Granit Xhaka should not have criticised his Arsenal teammates after suffering a blow to their hopes of finishing in the top four.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Monday night (16 May).

Xhaka, 29, questioned the commitment of his teammates to Sky Sports after the game and told some of them to “stay at home”.

Monday’s result leaves the Gunners two points behind Tottenham who travel to Norwich City on the final day of the season (22 May).

Kenny insists Xhaka’s comments haven’t helped anyone due to his previous record with being sent off.

“When I heard him say that, you’re joking aren’t you?” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Don’t get me wrong, he has played well this season. He has worked his way back in there.

“But when you slam your players like that, there have been sp many games where he has let the side down and been sent off.

“It’s double standards and you have to be careful when you are a player who has lost his team points in the past.

“It’s a bit rich coming from him and I don’t think he should have said it. I’m not sure who it helps.”

Xhaka has made 26 Premier League appearances for the Gunners this season.

His side face Everton on the final day of the season as they hope for Tottenham to slip up at Carrow Road.
