Arsenal news: Pundit issues ‘phenomenal’ player verdict as Christian Eriksen cited
Noel Whelan has hailed the “incredible” form of Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, compared the 23-year-old to former Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen.
As per Sky Sports Statto on Twitter, Odegaard was given the man of the match award as red-hot Arsenal recorded a 2-0 win over Leicester on Sunday (13 March).
The Norweigan created six chances during the clash, the joint-most of any Gunners player this season.
Odegaard, formerly of Real Madrid, has netted five goals and notched three assists in 24 Premier League appearances this term.
Whelan hailed the “phenomenal” Gunners, claiming their sparkling form is rolling back the years to the “Arsenal of old”.
“If you’re talking about much-improved players who have become integral to their sides, there are none more important right now than Odegaard,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s become like a Christian Eriksen at Tottenham. Everything seems to go through him, he’s been incredible.
“He’s always had real quality on the ball, but he’s added a real air of confidence to his game – and with that has come the goals and assists.
“He is that all-around number 10 player holding it all together. At the minute, bar Man City and Liverpool – Arsenal are the most fluid, attacking team in the Premier League.
“Some of the goals they’re scoring are phenomenal and a real throwback to the Arsenal of old. They look a really difficult team to stop in the final third.”

Arsenal sit fourth in the table and last tasted defeat on New Year’s Day.
Odegaard joined the Gunners permanently for a reported £30million plus bonuses last summer (2021) after impressing in an initial loan spell.
