Arsenal: One trophy would be a ‘great season’ for Mikel Arteta as ‘self‑induced’ pressure grows after Man City defeat
Arsenal are bringing pressure on themselves to win a trophy after failing to defeat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, as Arsenal’s six-year wait for a trophy continues.
Man City beat Arsenal 2-0 at Wembley Stadium to earn the first trophy on offer this season, with defender Nico O’Reilly heading home both goals.
Arteta’s only trophy as manager of Arsenal has been the 2020 FA Cup, and pressure is growing on the Spaniard to deliver the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal are nine points clear at the top of the Premier League, and the Gunners also remain in the Champions League and the FA Cup.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Arsenal will have been “disappointed” not to have turned up against Man City.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that pressure on Arteta and his side has always been around.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think the pressure is self-induced. I don’t think it has to come any more from the outside.
“I think they’ve been aware of it for a long time. All the media’s narrative has been that Arsenal are going to bottle the league. That’s been the media narrative for months now. So the pressure has been there.
“I think they’d be disappointed if they didn’t turn up for one game, and they didn’t really get it together. But City played very well. They have to accept that. They can’t win everything.
“There’s still three trophies that they’re going for, and I think that you know if they can win the league and do well in the Champions League, get to a final and hopefully win it. Anything like that, even one trophy, would be a great season for Arsenal, and as you just said they’re still in three.”
Double sale on the cards at Arsenal
Sources have told Football Insider that Arsenal will look to offload Gabriel Jesus and Ben White in the summer transfer window.
The north London club need to recoup funds to aid their transfer spending, with players like Myles Lewis-Skelly also set to depart.
Jesus has previously been linked with a move back to Brazil, whilst Everton hold interest in signing White.
