Arsenal in talks with midfield ace, top-four PL rivals also in the hunt – reports

By Aramide Oladipo

Jack Wilshere is currently in talks with Arsenal regarding an extension to his current contract at the club, according to a report.

The Metro has claimed that the north London club want the 25-year-old to stay at the Emirates and they feel it’s the right time to start negotiating with his contract expiring at the end of next season.

The Daily Mirror also suggest that top-four rivals Manchester City and Bournemouth are both interested in the English midfielder.

If Wilshere decides against signing a new deal with the Gunners, he could leave the club on a free transfer in 14 months’ time.

Wilshere decided to leave Arsenal and join Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side in the summer on a season-long loan.

The midfielder has made 26 Premier League appearances for the Cherries and although he hasn’t opened his account with the club, he has produced two assists so far this season.

Despite a strong start to his Bournemouth career, however, Wilshere has been left on the bench for Bournemouth’s last four Premier League matches.

Bournemouth travel to Anfield on Wednesday evening as they look to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five games, and Wilshere might have to settle for an appearance off the substitute’s bench once again.

In other Arsenal transfer news, Arsenal prepare for mass summer exodus as nine players face the axe.

Football Insider verdict:

If Arsenal want to keep hold of Wilshere then it’s the right time to start talking to him. The midfielder has done one of two things he set out to do on loan at Bournemouth – prove he can stay fit for a long period of time. However, it hasn’t exactly gone to plan and the talented player is struggling for game-time this season in a team well below Arsenal’s standard. If Wenger – or a new manager – is looking to rebuild the club then is Wilshere really the first name they want to get signed up? However, it does possibly point towards manager Wenger staying on. He is a known fan of the 25-year-old.
