Arsenal open talks over Gabriel Magalhaes deal – agreement expected soon
Arsenal have opened contract talks with centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, sources have told Football Insider.
The Gunners are ready to give the 26-year-old a bumper new deal despite him having three years left to run on his current agreement.
It is believed Arsenal chiefs are keen to reward Gabriel for his key efforts and outstanding performances in the 2023-24 campaign so far.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Mikel Arteta’s side are anticipating a full agreement with the Brazil international to come during the off-season.
Gabriel is a key part of the Arteta project at the Emirates Stadium and has forged a formidable partnership with William Saliba.
The former Lille star has made 47 total appearances in the 2023-24 season, with 45 of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.
Arsenal ready to give Gabriel bumper new contract
He has chipped in with four goals and is part of an Arsenal defence which has kept 16 Premier League clean sheets this term – the most of any side.
Gabriel signed his last contract extension in October 2022, keeping him at the club until June 2027.
But the Gunners are now keen to tie the centre-back down for even longer following his emergence as one of Europe’s top defenders.
The 26-year-old joined Arsenal from Lille in 2020 for a reported fee of £27million.

He has 165 appearances for the club and is now an established member of the Brazil squad ahead of Copa America this summer.
Arteta’s side have agreed new deals for Saliba, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Ben White in recent months.
