‘Arsenal open talks to sign Eberechi Eze’ – Sky journalist shares ‘concrete’ update

Eberechi Eze is high on Arsenal’s transfer shortlist this summer with discussions already underway to sign the England playmaker.

Mikel Arteta is anticipating a significant summer of spending in North London, with Arsenal having fallen by the wayside in the Premier League title race for a third straight season and currently trail by 11 points.

Arsenal’s inability to sign an out-and-out striker since Gabriel Jesus’ arrival in 2022 – and arguably since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back in 2018 – has been seen as costly in their trio of runners-up finishes.

A lack of presence at number nine has heaped the creative and goalscoring burden on the shoulders of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and others, but Arteta isn’t only keen to strengthen his side up front.

Eberechi Eze update gives Arsenal transfer hope

Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that that bolstering the frontline is Arteta’s top priority with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo a top target.

However, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported for Sky Sport.ch (7 April) that Eze’s £60million exit clause at Crystal Palace has put the England playmaker firmly back on the Gunners’ radar this summer.

Arsenal’s recruitment team already initiated contact with Eze’s entourage over a possible move to The Emirates, but a “concrete offer” is yet to be made with three other names also on their transfer shortlist.

The Gunners have been prioritising their chases for Martin Zubimendi, Nico Williams and Victor Gyokeres, but Eze is set to come firmly back into focus with Arsenal capable of paying his release clause.

Eberechi Eze on the shortlist for Arsenal this summer

Although Eze would undoubtedly add more cutting edge and quality in the final third for Arsenal if signed by the Gunners, the 26-year-old is arguably not needed given the strength Arteta already possesses.

Football Insider revealed on 5 April that Arsenal are well-placed to agree a deal for Gyokeres, and this is without doubt the one area of the pitch they must strengthen in order to re-assert their title credentials.

Zubimendi, Williams and Eze’s signings would add further depth to several well-stocked positions in North London already, but it’s clear that a striker of Gyokeres or Ollie Watkins’ quality is a neccessity.
