Finance guru: Stan Kroenke could now ‘cash in’ on Arsenal takeover as ‘hefty’ sale imminent

Stan Kroenke could take inspiration from the possible sales of Man United and Liverpool and “cash in” on his investment in Arsenal in the next few years.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about reports that the mega-wealthy Ambani family could theoretically be interested in a future takeover of the Gunners.

Mukesh Ambani, the family’s patriarch and the world’s 10th richest man, has been linked with a deal to buy Liverpool, who are on the market after Fenway Sports Group issued a statement courting external investment in November.

But The Athletic reported on Thursday (15 December) that Mukesh’s son, Akash, is an Arsenal supporter and that they are the only club the family would pursue if they ever decided to enter the world of football.

Kroenke first took a stake in the North Londoners in 2007, and with Mikel Arteta’s side top of the Premier League at Christmas, it looks as though his strategy is finally starting to bear fruit.

The 65-year-old also knocked back takeover overtures from Spotify mogul Daniel Ek only last year.

But Plumley claims that the market interest in Liverpool and Man United could be the catalyst for Kroenke to begin thinking about calling time on his reign at the Emirates.

“I think it’s unlikely in the near future,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

There are no real noises coming out of the club that Kroenke is willing to sell in the near future.

But we know Kroenke’s background from his franchises in America. That sort of model always has an exit strategy. We know he isn’t afraid to upset a few people.

He will also be looking to the situation at United and Liverpool. If both go for a hefty price tag, he might think the next few years are a good time to cash in.

The market interest in buying a Premier League club at the top end has never been higher. These things never happen quickly, but you can’t rule it out.
