Arsenal prepare to offload 26-year-old in £10m La Liga deal - report

By Abigail Withey

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is preparing to offload centre-back Gabriel Paulista this summer after the defender attracted interest from La Liga giants Valencia, according to a recent report.

The Sun has revealed that the Gunners will not hesitate to sell the 26-year-old if a suitable offer is made for the Brazilian, with the club currently pricing Gabriel at £10 million.

The newspaper claims on their website that the centre-back is not part of Wenger’s 2017/18 squad plans and could make a return to La Liga instead.

It is understood that Gabriel has lost his spot to Englishman Rob Holding, who started for Arsenal in their Community Shield victory against Chelsea at the weekend.

Wenger signed the Brazilian from Villarreal in 2015 for a fee around £13 million but the defender has found it difficult to secure a regular starting spot in the first-team.

In addition to Gabriel, the Arsenal boss is attempting to offload a number of squad members in the closing weeks of the transfer window with Kieran Gibbs, Calum Chambers and Lucas Perez close to an exit from the Emirates, according to the report.

As well as Gabriel, the Sun state that a number of big names such as Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud could all be making a departure from the Emirates this summer.

Arsenal now look ahead to their Premier League opener this weekend as they welcome Leicester City to the Emirates.
