Arsenal pull plug on Ivan Toney deal and now want 25-year-old instead – sources
Arsenal are set to scrap their long-term interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Gunners are now unlikely to move for the 27-year-old in the off-season.
Mikel Arteta and his transfer chiefs will now look elsewhere for a new striker – with Toney no longer considered the right fit for Arsenal.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (15 March) that Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in signing Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer.
It is understood that the highly-rated Sweden international will be available for £85million due to a release clause in his contract.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Gyokeres is seen as an ideal fit by Arsenal chiefs.
Sources say the 25-year-old’s ability to both score and assist is valued highly by talent-spotters at the Emirates Stadium.
Toney returned from a footballing ban in January and has hit four goals in nine Premier League games this season.
He is under contract at Brentford until June 2025 and has signalled his desire to quit the London club this summer.

Meanwhile, Gyokeres has managed 33 goals and 13 assists in Portugal this season after signing from Coventry last summer (2023).
Arsenal sit top of the Premier League with 10 games left to play – with Bukayo Saka (16 goals) their top scorer for the season.
