Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Mesut Ozil looks like he could not care less at times when playing for Arsenal.
Ozil has endured a difficult season with the Gunners after finishing second in the Premier League last campaign, scoring seven league goals in 28 appearances.
He came under criticism after failing to have any real impact in his side’s 2-0 defeat to North London rivals Tottenham, with Redknapp describing the German international as a passenger on the Sky Sports website.
Now the former professional and current pundit has given another scathing review of the former Real Madrid man, but explains that he is still a fan of the 28-year-old midfielder.
Redknapp said on the Sky Sports website: “There’s a fine line between looking like a great player and someone who looks like they couldn’t care less.
“He looks unhappy and when he’s not playing well, because of his disposition, because of how languid he is, it accentuates it even more.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Ozil and there’s no doubt he’s one of the most talented players in the league.”
The Gunners host Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, in what could prove to be a pivotal match in the fight for a top five spot.
United sit just five points ahead of Arsene Wenger’s side, the Gunners holding a game in hand over Jose Mourinho’s side, which could mean they find themselves ahead by the time next weekend’s fixtures come about.
However, Redknapp believes Arsenal have lacked strength in character this season, and believes showing some fight is the only way they will overcome United.
“There needs to be an attitude shift against Manchester United on Sunday,” the 43-year-old wrote on the Sky Sports website.
“It’s time for the Arsenal players to stand up and show the fight and desire their fans have been demanding of them.
“If the home side turn up ready for a battle and ready to deliver on the big stage, they have the ability to come out on top.”
