‘Arsenal senior duo could have had fall-out’ as mystery deepens

Arsenal’s outgoing chief Edu could have fallen out with manager Mikel Arteta after deciding to leave the club.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it doesn’t make sense for the sporting director to be leaving the Emirates at this point in the season.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 4 November Edu has quit Arsenal after agreeing a triple-your-money deal with the group run by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Greek outfit Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave make up the remainder of his multi-club model.

Edu returned to Arsenal in 2019 as technical director before transitioning into a sporting director role.

The ex-Brazil international midfielder has forged a close relationship with Arteta, with the pair working together to transform the north London giants into title challengers over the past two seasons.

Edu story doesn’t make sense after Arsenal exit confirmed

Borson admitted it doesn’t seem the most exciting move for Edu due to the two other clubs in Marinakis’s group alongside Forest.

He told Football Insider: “It seems to me there’s a missing piece and something we don’t know about.

“Maybe there is a personal issue internally with perhaps Arteta or something.

“I am speculating on that.

“The whole story just doesn’t make sense to me.

“To move mid-season for a slightly bigger remit with a multi-club proposition that’s got Forest in a great spot right now, but the other two clubs in the group don’t seem to me to be the most exciting propositions for somebody that’s coming out of Arsenal.”
