‘Arsenal set for record window after statement signing – fans will be very happy’

Arsenal have been tipped to break records in the transfer window after the news that they’re set to make a statement signing.

It was a slow start to the summer for the Gunners, and by the end of June, they still hadn’t announced a single addition.

However since then, they have sealed deals to bring both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi to the Emirates.

The business isn’t likely to end there for Arsenal either, with another three incomings expected in the coming weeks.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes it is a major positive that the Gunners are getting players through the door early.

Gyokeres move is a ‘statement of intent’ from Arsenal

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that it was a “statement of intent” that Arsenal are close to sealing the signing of Viktor Gyokeres.

The Gunners are also expected to bring in Christian Norgaard, and are in negotiations with Chelsea over a deal for Noni Madueke.

Wyness added that Mikel Arteta’s side could be set for a “record” transfer window.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s not many days since the window reopened and it is still very early to be getting these sorts of quality players over the line.

“To have them ready for a good long pre-season to me is a big statement of intent and I think that speaks volumes. I think the Arsenal fans will be very happy to see that sort of activity.

“Gyokeres is obviously a little bit unproven. He’s done it at Coventry and he’s done it at Sporting Lisbon but he hasn’t done it yet in the Premier League.

“I think around the Arsenal squad that they’re putting together, and having people like Zubimendi behind him, is going to be perfect for him. I think it’s a very exciting pre-season for Arsenal, getting major business done early.

“It would be great if they were to get Madueke done as well, as it’s about getting your squad ready for pre-season. I know that a lot of fans don’t understand, but it’s so important to have that bonding.

“When you’re away, doing overseas preseason trips, it’s more about the personalities meshing and getting to know each other as much as it is about understanding the skills and the way each other plays. It makes such a difference getting that ready.

“Bringing players in during January or even late in the window is always more difficult, as the season has started. It really is great now for Arsenal as they will go through things together.

I think it’s a very positive sign. I have been saying all along it was going to be a very busy window and these are big deals getting done. They’re on the way to a record window, I’m sure.”

‘Ethan Nwaneri could quit Arsenal’

Ethan Nwaneri is reportedly growing increasingly likely to quit Arsenal as he remains locked in a contract stand-off with just one year left on his deal.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 18-year-old is demanding assurances over his playing time.

However, Arteta is currently unable to offer those assurances while preparations are ongoing behind the scenes to strengthen his squad in the transfer market.
