Arsenal set sights on Bryan Mbeumo as injury crisis deepens – Insider
Arsenal are weighing up a bid to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo after his brilliant start to the season with the West London club.
This is according to former Man United and Tottenham scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that they are keeping tabs on the winger’s progress with a move in mind.
Mbeumo, 25, has scored eight goals in his first nine league games so far this season after his brace against Ipswich Town, inspiring interest from some of the country’s top clubs including Arsenal.
Brown previously told Football Insider that the Gunners want to strengthen their right-wing position in the transfer window.
It is said that the club’s recruitment team are said to have taken note of his versatility and he is also capable of playing as a striker or slotting in behind the centre-forward.
Concerns have grown in recent weeks about the lack of strength in depth in Mikel Arteta’s side, and they are now expected to turn to the transfer market for solutions.
However, Brentford are unlikely to consider offers for his services in January, and the Gunners may be made to wait until the end of the season to finalise a deal.
Arsenal want to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo
Brown, who spent over a decade as the chief scout at Man United during the most successful period, has insisted that the Cameroon international would provide a boost to Arteta’s side.
“I’ve heard Arsenal have been looking at him,” he told Football Insider.
“I can see that move being a possibility.
“They’ve done deals like that in the past when they signed Trossard for example, who have come in and benefitted their squad.
“He’s done fantastically well for Brentford not just this season but for a long period now.
“With the injury issues Saka has faced, it’s shown they need depth in that area.
“Mbeumo could provide that, but they also like the fact that he can play across the front three and provide cover behind the striker too.

“His goalscoring record has been brilliant this season and I don’t think Brentford would entertain an offer in the middle of the season, but he could be one to watch next summer.”
