Arsenal set to pay £8m+ after blockbuster signing agreed

Arsenal could pay more than £8million extra for Viktor Gyokeres after clauses have been revealed.

The Gunners made the Sweden international their primary striker target in a bid to strengthen their attacking options this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 7 July Arsenal were confident they had a full agreement in place for Gyokeres as they looked to finalise the finishing touches with Sporting Lisbon.

BBC Sport reported on 25 July the 27-year-old is expected to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium this weekend after being granted permission to undergo his medical.

Gyokeres, who signed for Sporting from Coventry City for around £20million in July 2023, registered 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances last season.

Kai Havertz was Arsenal’s top scorer with 15 strikes in the 2024-25 campaign despite missing several months through injury.

Arsenal agree £64m Viktor Gyokeres deal

Arsenal have been under pressure to sign a new striker for the best part of the past couple of years.

Mikel Arteta’s side finished second in the Premier League table in each of the past two seasons, with many feeling a no.9 was needed to strengthen their title chances.

There is no doubt Gyokeres is one of European football’s top marksmen at the moment in time, meaning the Gunners are set to pay a pretty penny to secure his services.

GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs reported on 25 July the package is worth €63.5million (£55.5million), with up to €10million (£8.7million) in add-ons.

In terms of the add-ons, he revealed €1.25million (£1.1million) will be paid to Sporting every 20 games Gyokeres plays up to a limit of €5million (£4.4million), €500,000 (£440,000) every 20 goal contributions up to a limit of €1million (£870,000), and €1million for every season Arsenal qualify for the Champions League up to a limit of €4million (£3.5million).

Arsenal backing Mikel Arteta after signing spree

Emirates Stadium chiefs are backing Arteta in the transfer market this summer after securing several new additions alongside Gyokeres.

The north London giants have signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera, with those deals setting them back more than £130million.

Arsenal are currently in Singapore as part of their lucrative pre-season tour of Asia.

The Gunners kicked off the first of two fixtures at the Singapore National Stadium with a 1-0 win over AC Milan on Wednesday (23 July).

Arteta’s side will face Newcastle United on Sunday (27 July) as they continue to ramp up their preparations for the new season.

They will then travel to Hong Kong to take on north London rivals Tottenham at the Kai Tak Sports Park on Thursday (31 July).

Arsenal will also face La Liga sides Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao at the Emirates before hosting Manchester United in their season-opener on 17 August.
