Arsenal shortlist Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak alongside £85m star – sources

Newcastle star Alexander Isak is on the shortlist for Arsenal as they plan a striker signing this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners are yet to approach Eddie Howe’s side about a potential deal but hold a concrete interest in the 24-year-old as the off-season approaches.

Arsenal are long-term admirers of Isak and tried to sign him prior to his reported £63million move to St James’ Park in 2022.

He has since established himself in the Premier League and could make the move to the Emirates Stadium later this year.

Arsenal are keen to bring a new striker to the club this summer – but Football Insider revealed on Saturday (16 March) that they are set to scrap their interest in Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

It is believed that Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, who has an £85million release clause, is seen as another ideal fit by Arsenal chiefs.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Sunday (17 March) that Newcastle will be forced to sell one of their biggest players this summer.

The Magpies’ are under major pressure to abide by the Premier League’s financial rules due to heavy spending in recent transfer windows.

He has hit 16 goals in 30 games across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign – including 12 goals in the Premier League.

The 42-cap Sweden international managed 11 goals last season – his first in England.
