Kieran Maguire predicts how much Arsenal will spend on signings this summer
Stan Kroenke will sanction only “modest spending” in the transfer market at Arsenal this summer.
That is according to finance guru and Football Insider correspondent Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after the Guardian revealed Arsenal have begun a revamp of their scouting department.
The likes of Nicolas Pepe, William Saliba and Lucas Torreira have all arrived for significant fees in recent years but failed to make a big impact.
And with money tight owing to the pandemic, Arsenal are understood to be pursuing a data-led approach in order to scope out more cost-efficient targets.
On the pitch, Arsenal are in real danger of missing out on European qualification for the first time since 1996.
Maguire claimed that the income deficit this would create as well as a lack of matchday income means that fans shouldn’t anticipate any Hollywood arrivals this summer.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “The amount of money spent by a club is driven by the amount coming into the club.
“Arsenal were getting close to £100m in matchday income for any given year. Clearly, they’ve lost that for the last 15 months.
“Even though they weren’t qualifying for the Champions League, Arsenal would be earning the thick end of £30m from getting to the later stages of the Europa League.
“Going forwards into 2021-22, that’s a big gap that the club might have to reconcile.
“It could be that Stan Kroenke provides some funding for that and it could be that they use some other sources.
“But you’re starting off with a huge minus either way, so I expect only modest spending.”
