Expert: Bukayo Saka has sent message to manager after Arsenal news – ‘it makes no sense’
Kevin Campbell has claimed Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has sent a message to Gareth Southgate with his performance against Germany.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said “it makes no sense” to play the 21-year-old as a left wing-back against Italy.
Saka starred for the Three Lions as a second-half substitute against Germany on Monday (26 September).
The winger replaced Phil Foden shortly after the hour mark with England 2-0 down – the game would finish 3-3 with Saka playing a big part in two of the goals.
As confirmed by Arsenal (23 September), Saka was awarded the England men’s player of the year for the 2021-22 campaign.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the Arsenal winger’s display, Campbell said: “The impact he had against Germany shows the manager and the fanbase what a fine player he is.
“He is still only a baby.
“He is a fantastic player and England’s player of the year.
“What is the point in playing him at left-wing-back. It makes no sense to me.
“Him and Mason Mount made a real difference against Germany.
“Saka was brilliant. It just goes to show that he is improving as a player. His know-how, intelligence and effectiveness is improving.
“It makes you think, ‘Why didn’t we start him?'”

Saka has contributed one goal and four assists in seven Premier League appearances.
His contract runs until the end of June 2024.
