Thierry Henry claims Arsene Wenger should select Alex Iwobi ahead of Mesut Ozil more often.
The Arsenal youngster has often been used as a forward in an attacking three but Henry believes Iwobi should be handed more opportunities in the kingpin number 10 role.
Iwobi filled in for the absent Ozil in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day and he impressed Henry, who believes the youngster can be more effective in certain games.
Henry claimed Iwobi’s ability to move the ball quicker than Ozil is much more effective against teams who sit back and the Arsenal legend hopes Wenger will start him ahead of Ozil for similar games in the future.
“Iwobi is better off in the middle for Arsenal when they come up against teams who are defensively minded like we saw against Crystal Palace,” said Henry, as quoted by Metro.
“Wenger must have seen it and hopefully he will be picked ahead of Ozil in such games. He moves the ball quicker and faster leaving opposition defenders in their wake. He belongs in the middle.”
The 20-year-old has been hugely impressive since breaking into the first team in 2015 and he has already made 42 first team appearances for the club despite his young age.
He has started 11 Premier League games this season and is expected to retain his place for the clash against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening as Ozil recovers from illness.
Ozil is regarded by many to be one of the club’s best players and fans often claim he is the best number 10 in the Premier League.
So far this season, Ozil has scored nine goals and provided six assists in the league and the European Cup.
In other Arsenal news, these three players could leave in January.
