Arsenal submit eleventh-hour bid to sign English striker

Arsenal are hoping to complete one more deal before the winter transfer window slams shut on Monday.

The Gunners may target a midfielder, after it was confirmed that Mikel Merino would be undergoing surgery on a broken bone in his foot.

The market is limited at this stage, however, with not enough time to arrange a replacement for most clubs.

Earlier in the day, Arsenal were linked with a late move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, but that link has since been rubbished.

Bukayo Saka is now injured for Arsenal as well, with there now some pressure on transfer chiefs to get something done before the deadline.

Arsenal make £1m bid for Igor Tyjon

Arsenal have been linked with Blackburn Rovers youngster Igor Tyjon for some time now, with transfer chiefs keen to add the striker to the academy.

The 17-year-old has made three senior appearances for the Championship club, and features regularly for the Under-21s.

Tyjon has scored 10 goals in 15 Premier League 2 appearances this season, despite his competition often being three or four years older than him.

Andre Harriman-Annous, 18, is often the main striker for the Arsenal U21S, but after he made his first-team debut, he will likely hope to go out on loan next season.

Alan Nixon reported to his Patreon on deadline day that Arsenal have returned with a bid worth just over £1million for Tyjon.

Blackburn are still holding out for more, but they are aware that they may get less for the England youth international at a tribunal when his contract expires in the summer.

Arsenal simultaneously working on James Wilson deal

Despite Merino‘s injury, Arsenal’s deadline-day focus appears to be entirely focused on the academy.

Various sources have reported that the Gunners are in talks with Hearts over a move for 18-year-old James Wilson.

The striker has already scored eight goals for the Scottish Premiership leaders despite his age, and has been capped by Scotland at the international level.

According to BBC Sport, Wilson may join on an initial loan with an option to buy, with the six months essentially serving as a trial period with the U21s.
