Arsenal ‘surprise’ Berta update as Sesko and Gyokeres moves could both fail

Arsenal are eyeing up more than just Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres as they search for a new centre-forward signing in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners fell short with their attempts to end their long wait for a trophy last season, and the pressure is growing on the club to finally end that wait in the current campaign.

Arsenal have been told that signing a centre-forward would win them the Premier League next season, although they are yet to complete any additions in that position.

Even so, they have been heavily linked with both Sesko and Gyokeres as they look to add that extra firepower to their attack.

Earlier this month, Football Insider reported that Arsenal favour a deal for Sesko over Gyokeres, although those two are not the only targets emerging for the club.

Andrea Berta identifies Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres alternatives

With no signings yet announced, some fans of Mikel Arteta‘s side are already becoming considering that they may miss out on both Sesko and Gyokeres in their search for a new striker.

However, it appears as though the club are prepared for that to be the case, which may not neccessarily be the end of their pursuit of a centre-forward.

According to a new update from the Daily Mail, the club’s sporting director Andrea Berta has identified alternative striker options, should they fail to sign either Sesko or Gyokeres.

As a result, it is stated that there is a chance a “surprise” candidate could come into the picture as a new centre-forward signing for the Gunners this summer.

It will not just be a striker that the club add this summer, with Arsenal now seemingly closing in on a deal to sign midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford as well.

Arsenal transfer update is a relief for fans

Football Insider Verdict

Even if they do not sign either Sesko or Gyokeres this summer, it is essential that Arsenal boost their attacking firepower before the season starts.

Too many times last season, Arteta’s side missed chances they would have taken with a more consistent goalscorer leading the line, which cost them in the hunt for trophies.

Given they cannot allow that to happen again, they must make sure they do bring in a centre-forward in the coming weeks, even if they miss out on preferred options such as Sesko or Gyokeres.

Back in January, Arsenal saw a bid rejected by Aston Villa for Ollie Watkins, so they do know there are other strong striker options out there for them to pursue.

With that in mind, there can be no excuse for the Gunners not to make sure they sign a striker in the market, considering how obvious their need for one is.

If they fail to do that, the 2025/26 campaign could be another long and frustrating one for those at the Emirates Stadium.
