Arsenal table £35m offer for title-winning goal machine to replace Sanchez – report

By Danny Wright

Arsenal have tabled a mega-money bid for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, according to a report.

The Sun has claimed that the Gunners have made an offer worth £35million for the 21-year-old, who proved to be a key part in helping Monaco win the Ligue 1 title last season.

It is understood that Arsene Wenger is eyeing up Lemar to replace Emirates hero Alexis Sanchez ahead of the 2017/18 Premier League season.

The report says that this isn’t Arsenal’s first approach for Lemar as they had an opening offer of £28million rejected by the French champions.

It added that talks between the two clubs are on-going as no agreement has been reached as of yet.

Lemar has proved to be a goal machine with Monaco last season, whether he is finding the net himself of crafting openings for his team mates.

In 55 appearances across all competitions last term, he scored 14 goals of his own and supplied a further 17 assists as the principality reached the Champions League semi-finals and romped home in the league.

Lemar also earned his first senior cap for France last November and has now made a total of five appearances for his nation.

Football Insider Verdict

Lemar looks to be a very, very exciting talent who could easily be a star at the Emirates. It will be frustrating to the Gunners fans if Sanchez does leave this summer, after an underwhelming campaign for the club, but to replace him with a young star like Lemar would at least offer some consolation. Ideally, Wenger should try to keep the Chilean international, but if the player wants to move on then there’s not a lot the manager can do. It would be really exciting if Arsenal managed to line up with both Sanchez and Lemar on either wing next season. The Gunners surely have the money to do it so hopefully that is what they try to do.
