Arsenal in talks over three ‘superstar’ signings before deal agreed – sources

Arsenal made moves to sign three attacking stars this summer before agreeing their last-gasp Raheem Sterling deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Preliminary talks were held over a deal for striker Benjamin Sesko, 21, and wide forward Nico Williams, 22, before they opted to stay at RB Leipzig and  Athletic Bilbao respectively.

The Premier League side also made an enquiry for Jamal Musiala but were emphatically knocked back by Bayern Munich.

Mikel Arteta wants to sign a multi-faceted forward with the potential to be a “Premier League superstar”.

However, plans for a big-money signing had to be put on ice although all three players remain on Arsenal’s long-term radar.

Arsenal ultimately signed Sterling in a last-minute loan deal from London rivals Chelsea on transfer deadline day for the remainder of the season.

Arsenal set to reignite pursuit of new forward

Sesko was recently awarded the Player of the Match award after scoring a hattrick in Slovenia’s 3-0 win over Kazakhstan, while Williams and Musiala also starred for their countries during the international break.

The north London side have started the new season as they ended the last, winning two and drawing one of their opening three Premier League games.

Current striker Kai Havertz is in fine form, scoring twice and providing one assist as Arsenal seek to end Man City’s four-year monopoly on the league title.

Next up for Arsenal, is an away trip to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the first North London derby of the season, but they will be without captain Martin Odegaard.

Football Insider revealed (September 10) that Odegaard is a major doubt for the game against Spurs after picking up an injury in Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria.
