Arsenal tipped to axe 26-year-old after Ben White update pre-Leeds United - expert

Arsenal defender Ben White will replace Rob Holding in the starting XI against Leeds United if he passes a late fitness test.

That is the view of former Gunners and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the potential selection dilemma facing Mikel Arteta.

White missed Arsenal’s 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday after picking up a muscle injury against Man United last month.

Holding, 26, replaced the ex-Brighton centre-half in the starting XI at the London Stadium and produced a man of the match display.

Speaking to club media (1 May), Arteta revealed the club would assess White’s fitness ahead of the visit of Leeds United on Sunday.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Holding did enough to retain his place in the starting XI, Campbell said: “No.

“Mikel Arteta knows his best team. Rob Holding has come in and deputised brilliantly but he knows who is number one. That is the difference. He knows the preferred partnership.

“Everyone has their part to play, that is for sure. Ben White and Gabriel are the starters.

“Holding is doing his job and is doing is well but he is the back-up. He was solid and got his name on the score sheet against West Ham. That says a lot about him.

“He never complains. He just gets on with it and does the business.”
