Arsenal tipped to change system and recall Pepe after crushing injury blow pre-Brighton - Campbell

Kevin Campbell has tipped Arsenal to change system against Brighton after Granit Xhaka was ruled out of Saturday’s clash through injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners striker suggested Mikel Arteta will adopt a 4-1-4-1 formation with Nicolas Pepe, 26, coming into the side.

Xhaka starred in the north London derby on Sunday but was withdrawn with a knee injury after he was caught by Spurs winger Lucas Moura.

As reported by Sky Sports (29th September), the Switzerland international has now been ruled out for up to three months.

Albert Lonkonga is in contention to replace Xhaka when Arsenal travel to Brighton on Saturday.

The Belgium midfielder moved to the Emirates in a £15million deal in July and has made six appearances to date.

However, Campbell questioned whether Arteta fully trusts the summer signing yet.

“Lonkonga could come in as a straight swap for Xhaka,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I think Lonkonga has been eased in because he is young and new. I think Mikel Arteta would put him in beside Thomas Partey this weekend if he wasn’t still settling in but don’t get me wrong, there is an opportunity to do that against Brighton.

“I have an inkling Arteta might change the system instead though. He could go 4-1-4-1 with Partey holding on his own and Pepe coming into the forward line.

“Does Arteta trust Lonkonga yet? I’m not sure. From what I’ve seen Lokonga will not let anybody down though because he is a great player.”
