‘Arsenal to sign Joan Garcia after David Raya disgrace’ – Fans rage at Everton draw

Arsenal fans have called out goalkeeper David Raya following his display against Everton and his questionable penalty-saving technique.

Arsenal were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at the Emirates on 5 April, marking their 11th draw of the Premier League season as they sit 11 points adrift of Liverpool.

Leandro Trossard gave Arsenal the lead with a well-taken finish, but Everton hit back early in the second half when Iliman Ndiaye converted from the spot.

The penalty came after Myles Lewis-Skelly was judged to have fouled Jack Harrison following a coming together that spilled into the box.

However, the initial contact occurred outside the area and has caused caused controversy online. But no VAR reprieve came, and the spot-kick stood.

While debate continued over the penalty call, many Arsenal supporters shifted their focus to Raya, criticising the goalkeeper’s positioning during Ndiaye’s strike.

The Spaniard appeared to dive early, sparking frustration from fans already unhappy with previous errors this season.

David Raya criticised again for penalty technique after Everton draw

As Ndiaye stepped up to take his penalty, replays showed Raya committing early, diving to his right before the Everton forward had even struck the ball–sparking fresh debate online.

Arsenal fans have previously raised concerns about Raya’s approach to penalties, particularly after their FA Cup shootout defeat to Manchester United in January.

That night, the Spaniard failed to get close to any of United’s five penalties, and his technique against Everton seemed worryingly similar.

Despite his struggles from the spot, Raya has been a key part of Mikel Arteta’s side this season, keeping an impressive 16 clean sheets across all competitions.

Arsenal fans demand Joan Garcia as doubts grow over David Raya

Even with Arteta’s continued backing, the fanbase appear ready for change between the posts, particularly following Raya’s latest misstep as he was branded a “disgrace”.

Football Insider revealed in February that Arsenal are lining up a summer move for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, having failed in an attempt to sign him last year. Instead, they brought in Neto from Bournemouth on a season-long loan, though he hasn’t featured regularly.

Supporters took to social media after the Everton match, with one writing: “Raya useless on penalties. Get me Garcia.” Another added: “When is someone going to tell Raya he has the worst penalty-saving technique ever?”
