‘Arsenal to strike Liverpool revenge blow after Premier League title defeat’

Arsenal have now had to officially concede the Premier League title to Liverpool this season, but they could get one over the Anfield outfit in return in the coming weeks.

On Sunday (27 April), Arne Slot’s side thrashed Tottenham 5-1 to mathematically confirm their status as Premier League champions in the Dutchman’s first season in charge of the club.

As a result the Gunners now look destined to finish second in the top-flight of English football for the third consecutive season.

After finishing runners up to Man City in the last two campaigns, it will be hugely frustrating for Arsenal that they were not the ones to take advantage of the drop off from Pep Guardiola’s side this time round.

But with attention now turning to next season – though Mikel Arteta’s side still have the Champions League to play for – they could still help themselves strike an early blow to the now-champions ahead of the new campaign by strengthening at the Emirates and weakening the Anfield outfit.

Real Madrid eye Alexis Mac Allister as target wants Arsenal

This season, Alexis Mac Allister has been a key player in helping Liverpool to their Premier League title triumph.

The Argentine international has produced some memorable moments to help the Reds to that success, not least with his stunning strike that put them 2-1 up on Spurs at the weekend.

That though it starting to attract interest from elsewhere, with Marca reporting that Real Madrid are keen to sign Mac Allister this summer as their alternative target, Martin Zubamendi, is widely considered to be on the way to Arsenal.

Liverpool are already facing the prospect of losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

It would therefore be hugely frustrating for the Merseyside outfit to lose another important and popular player to the same club so soon after achieving such a huge success.

Arsenal though, have a chance to ensure that setback does indeed happen for their Premier League title rivals.

Arsenal close in on Real Madrid alternative to Liverpool star

There will of course be need for Arteta to strengthen his own side at the Emirates in the summer transfer window if they are to finally go one better and lift the title next season.

Midfield is one position they seem set to address, with Arsenal being heavily linked with a move for Real Sociedad’s Zubimendi ahead of the summer window.

As per the aforementioned report, Madrid have also been keen on the Spain international, but have now accepted that he has his heart set on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Consequently, the reigning Spanish champions have now turned their attention more closely towards Mac Allister.

So if Arsenal are able to complete their signing of Zubimendi this summer, they will not only be giving themselves a boost, but also harming the prospects of one of their closest rivals for success this season.

Having just been forced to sit and watch Liverpool celebrate winning a trophy that has long evaded them, such a situation would surely be a satisfying early counterpunch for those at the Emirates, as they look to finally go one better next term.
