Arsenal told to ‘agree numbers’ with William Saliba amid ‘incredible’ claim – Campbell

Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to tie William Saliba down to a new contract as soon as possible.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker suggested the “incredible” 21-year-old is playing himself into a hefty pay rise at the Emirates.

Saliba starred for Mikel Arteta’s side in a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Friday.

The centre-half boasted 94 per cent pass accuracy, seven clearances, one tackle and one blocked shot in what was a man of the match performance at Selhurst Park. [WhoScored]

According to journalist Freddie Paxton (22 July), the France international has agreed to sign a new deal at the Emirates after positive talks prior to the US tour.

His current deal expires at the end of June 2024.

When asked by Football Insider if the Gunners need to get the deal done now, Campbell said: “Agree on the numbers now Arsenal!

“Wow, this guy is only going to get better.

“I’m not saying he is never going to have a bad game, young players always will. He will have his moments but the way he plays the game, he is so assured.

“It is very rare that he goes to ground. He brings such a calmness to the team.

“I heard Virgil van Dijk followed him after the game on Friday. The Rolls Royce following the Bentley, I don’t mind that.

“Listen, Saliba is an incredible player and an incredible talent. Arsenal better get him signed up. The sooner the better.”
