Arsenal told to complete Leandro Trossard signing after 1 January reveal – pundit
Noel Whelan has backed Arsenal to move for Brighton star Leandro Trossard as he enters the final months of his current contract.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a “lot of clubs” may be interested in the 27-year-old after his recent form at the Amex Stadium.
Trossard, who has been linked with London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, is out of contract at the end of the season and can discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from 1 January.
Speaking to the BBC’s Monday Night Club (3 October), the Belgium international admitted he “wants to go” if given the “opportunity” to join a top side.
The midfielder insisted he has “grown tremendously” since coming into the Premier League in 2019.
Trossard has already notched five goals and one assist in seven top-flight games this season.
Whelan suggested Liverpool could be among the interested parties next summer after his Anfield hat trick last week (1 October).
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s a very talented player.
“He’s not taken too much of the spotlight over the years, but we’re certainly all aware of his talent.
“He links up well, tidy player, easy on the eye – but he puts the shift in going backwards as well.
“I think there’ll be a lot of clubs interested, not just Arsenal, if he’s available on a free contract as a punt.

“He’d fit into someone like Liverpool with their attacking style. He’s obviously already left his mark there with the hat trick, so that’ll be fresh in the mind of Jurgen Klopp.
“He would bolster any squad with a great deal of Premier League experience and there’ll be a lot of takers for a player like him.”
