Arsenal told to give Max Aarons ‘big five-year contract’ after update – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Max Aarons “ticks all the boxes” for Arsenal as they target a “shrewd” summer move for the Norwich star.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Gunners would be “sorted” at right-back if they hand the 22-year-old a “big five-year contract”.

According to The Sun (14 April), Arsenal and Man United are leading the chase for Aarons ahead of the summer window – with German duo Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also interested.

The report claims the English right-back could be available for just £20million with Norwich set to be relegated from the Premier League.

Aarons, who is under contract at Carrow Road until June 2024, has made 28 Premier League appearances this term.

Whelan claimed a move for the former England under-21 international could be a key part of the Arsenal “rebuild”.

“That could be shrewd business,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“We know they’re trying to rebuild and trying to bring in young players to have that longevity going forward.

“He knows what the Premier League is all about. And at 22 years of age – that truly is longevity in a key position. Give him a big five-year contract, and the position is sorted.

“He ticks all the boxes for Arsenal. He’s a box-to-box player, can defend, gets forward – he’d be a great addition for anyone in the top half.

“Aarons is exactly the sort of player they need to be looking at this summer.”

Arsenal sit fifth in the Premier League, three points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham.
